Far East Flaneur is an art + nature trail experience that takes us from the FLOAT STUDIO vessel at Lake Tyers to Sailors Grave at Cape Conran - via all the best bits in between.

A 5-night, Far-East Gippsland adventure for a dozen creative nature lovers. Be a Far East Flaneur. Supported by our best local tour operators. Travelling with the FLOAT team of artists, bird watchers, nature journalers and storytellers. The folk who love to share this region and its precious story of forests and coasts, flora and flocks.

* NOTE: Some might want to arrive at Lakes Entrance the day before we start our journey, on Sunday 25 October to meet the FLOAT crew at Iceworks Studio, Lakes Entrance with Welcomes, introductions, coffee + cake. (You will need to arrange your own accommodation, but we can help!).
We’ll walk, dawdle, draw, map, listen, laugh, curse, kayak, cycle and walk some more (with back-up lifts whenever we wear out.)
The experience is grounded in the CREATIVE ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP that FLOAT is built on. All participants will be equipped with their own NATURE JOTTING satchel that will help them look, listen, snap, and scribble their en-route notes.
Your stories will engage a new generation in an alternative future for our forests and far east communities.

We are all on a mission to create sustainable communities that thrive on creativity and social enterprise and deep cultural exchange of knowledge.
We’ll sit beside lakes and rivers with artists, weavers, ecologists, sound artists and storytellers. Relax, wander and hear the stories that offer a new connection to Far East Gippsland .
Creative practice is woven throughout the whole journey, with travelers encouraged to observe, listen and respond to the landscape.

FAR EAST FLANEUR - DETAILS OF THE PATH
DAY 1. MONDAY 26 OCTOBER Meet at Lake Tyers Beach Tavern @ 10am. Welcome to Gunaikurnai Country - in Far East Gippsland. Meet our local artists, community leaders, poets, storytellers and nature lovers. \
Start dawdling (with our local guide) to Lake Tyers House along the lake edge. Easy walk along this Ramsar-listed waterway.We travel in small walking groups at the pace you enjoy. Admire the view. And the sounds. (of birds of course). 4.5km to Lake Tyers House for a picnic lunch in this special place.
LAKE TYERS HOUSE Lake Tyers House was built in 1886 as a guest house, attracting nature lovers from far and wide. The owners invite us to share the isolated beauty of this special place.
Our wild mentors will join us to Kayak an easy 2.5km to Trident Arm Wilderness Campground, with locals who love this place. Pitch tents. Flop. Chef prepared dinner. FROTH stories shared around the campfire. Or just curl up in your tent. Camp @ Trident Arm.
DAY 2. TUESDAY 27 OCTOBER
Wake at Trident Arm for an early start. Share a help-yourself-breakfast with us all. We will stop in a few places along the way. Iron Barks, Devil’s Hole and Rules Point Canoe 7.5 km to Cameron’s Arm camp ground.Another picnic lunch, yep, simple but shared and curated by local artists (food is art). Next stop. Nowa Nowa. Afternoon Kayak on to Mingling Waters camp park. Best overnight accom in the far east. Love it.
DAY 3. WEDNESDAY 28 OCTOBER Help-yourself-breakfast at Nowa Nowa on Lake Tyers, set among these handmade cabins all built in a far east timber town, reinventing itself for regenerative tourism and a sustainable future. Then we ebike 38km to Orbost (with morning tea breaks along the way). Guided by (the best, funnest) local scientist, geomorphologist and devoted bike wanderer Eric Sjerp. We’ll move at a conversational pace, stopping often. Expect stories of landforms and waterways, moments to linger, and the quiet pleasure of travelling under your own power. The Nowa Nowa Gorge. Cycling the East Gippsland Rail Trail with support from Snowy River Cycling + the Emerald Link crew.
Lunch is served at the Orbost Arts Centre by Wilderness Coast Artists and pioneering forest lovers and environmental heroes. Best spanikopita hand made and served by the Gallery. Easy bus trip 18km to Corringle Slips Wilderness Campground. Pitch tents. Light the campfire. Flop.

DAY 4. THURSDAY 29 OCTOBER A slow start today while we weave and chat with the Corringle Creators in the camp ground beside the Snowy Estuary. CORRINGLE CREATORS weaving workshop + walk. (4 hours or so). Everyone’s favourite day.Corringle Creators - Susan + Kylie Martin - celebrating fifth-generation Aboriginal weaving traditions. Proudly community-made. Picnic lunch then Kayak 1.1km across the Snowy River to Marlo. Lattes at the Marlo Local. Stroll 1.2kms along foreshore to Marlo Ocean views caravan park. Pitch tents. Flop. Dinner at Marlo Hotel. Comfy camp + campfire at Marlo.
DAY 5. FRIDAY 30 OCTOBER Campground Breakfast before we Hike 8.5km to Point Ricardo. Best stroll along the Marlo Estuary. Minibus / Hike 8km to West Cape Cabins.
West Cape Cabins were the natural + best surprise highlight of our First Flaneur. Hand made cabins, set on acres of coast with the most welcoming of hosts (whose family built the place) - we never wanted to leave.* Bus to Sailors Grave Brewing for best dinner, best locally brewed beer, and best stories shared by locals (FROTH style around the campfire). Back to West Cape Cabins to really understand what you’ve just discovered.*You could decide to stay a little longer if you feel you just can’t leave after just 2 nights - extra nights by arrangement.
DAY 6. SATURDAY 1 NOVEMBER Breakfast self-serve from the West Cape Cabin kitchen. Relax, be part of our zine production / photo shoot art, or local bush-walk to Salmon Rocks with Angharad NW. Depart: Bus 17km to Marlo to connect with V-line coach departing 2.26pm arriving at Lake Tyers 3.39pm.
