As a migrant and multidisciplinary artist, I'm always searching for ways to deepen connection with place, memory and community. The idea of an Artist in Residency on the Dhungala spoke to me immediately as a chance to weave together my practices of artmaking, meditation and collective storytelling with the living presence of the river. I applied because I see AIR as a space to slow down, to listen and to create with others in dialogue with water as a living being.
The journey will be an immersive paddling experience where each stroke becomes part of a shared weaving. Along the way, we will experience moments of personal reflection, attuning to the rhythms of the river and the memories it carries. From there, we will bring these impressions together, weaving with natural materials to create an ephemeral piece that holds both our individual and collective experiences. This is not about performance or product, but about presence: a moving meditation that invites participants to reconnect with themselves, with each other and with the Dhungala as a living being. You will leave with a felt sense of belonging, threads of care and kinship to carry forward.
