Let your ears be filled with birdsong and the steady flow of the Birrarung. About 20 kilometres north-east of Melbourne (Naarm), this stretch of the river is shared with kangaroos, kookaburras, and the towering manna gum — wurun in Woi-wurrung language. Though mostly gentle, the river here carries a few small rapids that invite you to move in rhythm with its currents — to dance with the Birrarung.
Pound Bend and the surrounding area hold deep cultural and spiritual significance for the Wurundjeri people. The Wurundjeri Stories interpretive trail follows a yerrin barring (bush path), developed in partnership with Wurundjeri Elders to share their history, culture, and enduring connection to this Country.
