Dhungala / Murray River

Bangerang / Latje Latje Country

The Murray River, known as Dhungla/Dungala to Yorta Yorta and Bangerang people, is Australia's longest river, stretching over 2,500 kilometers. It begins at its source in the Snowy Mountains on Ngarigo Country in NSW and meanders west through Wiradjuri and Yorta Yorta Country, before heading north through Barapa Barapa, Wamba Wamba, Mutti Mutti, Wadi Wadi, Tati Tati, Latje Latje, west again through Meru Country and south, finishing on Njarendjeri Country, as it meets with the Coorong and Murray Mouth and into the Southern Ocean.

Our journeys on the Murray tend to take us through the lands and waters of Bangerang Country, where river red gums line the banks, stars glisten in the night sky and cockatoos muffle our thoughts of the everyday with their calls. The slow-paced journeys we take here allow for a deeper connection to place.

*As we move away from colonial ways of naming Country, we might get it wrong. If you think we've missed something, please let us know.
